Where: New Now. 2100 West St. Oakland, Ca . More info below.

What: Learn about the technology behind self-driving cars and how they are tested. How do we know when we've done enough testing? I am optimistic about the future but after working on testing and testing infrastructure for multiple self-driving car companies over the course of five years, I've seen some interesting failure cases. After going over some of the basic systems used by various companies, I'll talk about their pros and cons and some of the spicier issues I caught. I'll touch briefly on testing philosophies but this is a non-technical talk designed for everyone.

NEW KNOW-ER. This is the creator guiding this event.

Jonathan MacDonald is one of the few, rare software engineers in the San Francisco Bay Area. While not currently working on self-driving vehicles, he has five years experience working at self-driving companies from a small startup to an established enterprise.

CAR. There is street parking. It is a residential neighborhood. Thursday and Friday are street cleaning days with parking restrictions between 1230p-330p. If you find parking limited outside the space, please try Brush St. It is the street at the end of the block. Do NOT leave any valuables in your car.

BART. NewNow is a 10-12 minute walk from 19th Street Oakland BART. Arriving from San Francisco, you may prefer to take the first stop (West Oakland) and take a 5 minute LYFT or bike from there. The shortest distance to walk is from 19th St. BART.

  • NewNow is a blue-gray building at the corner of 21st and West. There is no outside building signage. There is one 4 inch step into the space and two 4 inch steps down into the backyard. Typical to Bay Area spaces, there is no air conditioning. The space is usually comfortable with overhead fans and open windows. To help further prepare for your visit contact: info@newnow.live
