With this workshop, we will explore writing prompts that encourage memory and observation, responding to the dead, and the power of elimination. In honor of the birthday and memorial celebration at the Castro Theater of the late great Beat poet Diane di Prima on August 8th, we will play with writing exercises she utilized in her writing classes over the years to open up and dive onto the page from a place of radical vulnerability. This is a chance to share, in a safe and open environment, what is most often a very personal, individual endeavor. How often do you sit in a room and write poetry with a bunch of friends and strangers? Exactly. Not often enough. If that sounds good to you, then you’ll be excited to meet 14 other people for whom this also sounds like a great idea. Bring your favorite pen and a pad of good paper.

NEW KNOW-ERS. These are the folks guiding this workshop.

Jenny Jo Wennlund is a painter, poet, muralist, playwright, director and mother. For twenty years she studied poetry, magick and Buddhism with revolutionary Beat poet Diane di Prima—carrying forth the lineage of Mother Outsider, as di Prima fought devotedly to lift the neglected voices of mothers as artists. jennyjowennlund.com // IG: @best_witches
